North Adams Truth Project: “What’s Your Truth?”
The North Adams Truth Project is a community project investigating authority, voice, and truth organized by MASS MoCA and the Northern Berkshire Community Coalition (nbCC), inspired by the works of Jenny Holzer on view in MASS MoCA’s Building 6.
Community members are invited to two “What’s Your Truth?” open sessions at MASS MoCA from 1-3pm on 4/28 and 5/26 to explore what stories get told about our hometown, who has the power to tell these stories, and ways in which we can add to, complicate, or reject some of those stories. Through any process of editing, removing, and adding information to a series of documents with varying ‘truths’ about North Adams, participants will be able to offer their more personal, nuanced visions of the city. The goal, in short, is to flip the narratives from needs-based descriptions of North Adams as a struggling community to asset-based stories of triumph and more honest acknowledgments of complexity and gray areas.
The North Adams redaction stories will ultimately be printed on posters and hung around the downtown area in conjunction with DownStreet Art in Summer 2018.
