ATTN: Downtown North Adams Business Owners
The Chamber of Commerce is soliciting input about Main Street.
Please take 5-10 minutes to complete the following survey about Main Street.
Background information
Payette, a design and architecture firm in Boston, started holding an annual day of service program for Martin Luther King day a few years back. They take applications from communities across MA for consideration, and then pick 4 to tackle. Tackling it means they do some prep work with community partners, then on MLK day, they spend their entire day in teams actually doing the work. Essentially it’s around $30,000 of free TA for each selected community.
To date, North Adams has actually been selected twice. An interactive design plan for the Brayton park/school, and an envisioning of the Over Pass Under Way that would activate the space under the overpass between MoCA and downtown.
Last year, the City, in partnership with the Chamber, applied to have Payette do a design/visioning plan for what a new layout and design for Main Street might be that encompasses a focus on business, customers, pedestrians, residents, bikes, and resiliency…as well as aesthetic beauty. The end result being, a couple of versions of designs that can then be used to inspire community dialogues (business community and residential community) about what we collectively want Main Street to be, as a way to help inform the City Administration as they seek infrastructure development and support of Main Street going forward.
We resubmitted when their application opened back in October and we were accepted!
